ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION: SENSE AND NON-SENSE - PART 1

Part 1

Problems

Hey, here's an idea: let's take BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars from citizens of the United States and use the money to give benefits to people we know are breaking the law!

Why don't we hear the issue framed that way?

And, in the Left's crusade for "fairness," why do we not hear about the “unfairness” in letting lawbreakers jump the queue of all those people waiting to enter legally?

Would we not love to hear a State of the Union address where the President says:

All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That's why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens. In the budget I will present to you, we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace ...

We are a nation of immigrants. But we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years, and we must do more to stop it.

Guess what? We already have heard these words. Bill Clinton said them in his 1995 State of the Union address! https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4351026/clinton-1995-immigration-sotu

Think about that. in 1995, the Democrats regarded those words as desirable policy; two decades later, they label them radical racist xenophobia! Quite a leap to the Left and, of course, not mentioned by the mass media.

STARTING POINT

A nation that does not enforce its borders is not a nation. Common sense dictates that a country does not give benefits to illegal immigrants. Look to our neighbor to the South.

Mexico's laws.

"The Mexican government will bar foreigners if they upset 'the equilibrium of the national demographics.' If outsiders do not enhance the country’s 'economic or national interests or are not found to be physically or mentally healthy,' they are not welcome. ... 'They must not be economic burdens on society and must have clean criminal histories.' Those seeking to obtain Mexican citizenship must show a birth certificate, provide a bank statement proving economic independence, pass an exam and prove they can provide their own health care.

Illegal entry into the country is equivalent to a felony punishable by two years’ imprisonment. Document fraud is subject to fine and imprisonment; so is alien marriage fraud. Evading deportation is a serious crime; illegal re-entry after deportation is punishable by ten years’ imprisonment. ...

Native-born Mexicans are empowered to make citizens’ arrests of illegal aliens and turn them in to authorities...

... A National Population Registry tracks and verifies the identity of every member of the population, who must carry a citizens’ identity card. Visitors who do not possess proper documents and identification are subject to arrest as illegal aliens... Noncitizens cannot 'in any way participate in the political affairs of the country.' ”

Contrast United States policy under President Obama and the Holder/Lynch Department of Justice.

Sanctuary Cities

"Across the U.S., there are over 300 cities, counties, and states that are considered "sanctuary cities". These jurisdictions protect criminal aliens from deportation by refusing to comply with ICE detainers or otherwise impede open communication and information exchanges between their employees or officers and federal immigration agents....these policies have resulted in the release of more than 10,000 criminal aliens that ICE was trying to deport, allowing these offenders to remain in the community and commit more crimes.

Earlier this summer Democrats filibustered and blocked a bill to deny federal funds to Sanctuary cities. The bill was called Kate's law after Kate Steinle, murdered in San Francisco by a "man who had been repeatedly deported but sneaked back into the U.S. each time. He served a term in federal prison and was released to San Francisco, which asked to prosecute him on a years-old drug warrant.Local prosecutors ultimately decided to drop the case rather than return the man to federal agents who wanted to deport him. The sheriff’s department, following the county’s sanctuary policy, released him."

Catch and Release

Brandon Judd, the president of the National Border Patrol Council, complained: when illegal immigrants are detained at or near the border, Border Patrol, in many cases, must release them into the U.S. “If you are an unaccompanied minor we will not only release you, but will escort you to your final destination. If you are a family unit, we will release you. If you claim credible fear, we will release you. If you are a single male and we do not physically see you cross the border and you claim that you have been in this country since 2014, we will release you,...

“We have encountered individuals in the Rio Grande Valley who are still wet from crossing the river, who have claimed they had been in the United States since 2014,... Under current Administration policy we processed them and let them go ..." [Emphasis added]

Judd took the Obama administration to task for failing to take on the problem of border security but claiming the border is secure. “You do not talk about the Mexican drug cartels,...You do not talk about the fact that every day on average a Border Patrol Agent is seriously assaulted. You do not talk about how 20 percent of the individuals we are apprehending now are convicted felons and have previously been deported. You do not talk about any of this. You talk about how apprehensions are down and how well things are going. And you punish anyone who has the temerity not to echo the Administration’s talking points."

CBP Advising Illegals On Avoiding Arrest

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in a post on its website’s homepage:"immigration laws are not to be enforced at any of a wide range of designated 'sensitive locations' – so that illegal aliens may be 'free to live their lives'...'without fear or hesitation...[including] Schools, such as known and licensed daycares, pre-schools and other early learning programs; primary schools; secondary schools; post-secondary schools up to and including colleges and universities; as well as scholastic or education-related activities or events, and school bus stops that are marked and/or known to the officer, during periods when school children are present at the stop;Medical treatment and health care facilities, such as hospitals, doctors’ offices, accredited health clinics, and emergent or urgent care facilities; ...and during public demonstration, such as a march, rally, or parade."

Encouraging more illegals and more benefits for them

2 Examples:

UCLA promotes "a ten-week summer program that provides paid internship opportunities for immigrants in California, regardless of their immigration ... status. The program will encourage them to advocate for immigration reform and promote universal health care access... "

The Federal Government offers "family-reunification-refugee-program with 'free' transportation from Central American countries with resettlement assistance and permanent residency. A U.S.-based parent will initiate the application...To qualify they must be a permanent resident, a parolee or a beneficiary of Obama’s recent amnesty or deferred action. Many have probably lived illegally in the U.S. for years. The only out-of-pocket cost is for a DNA test to assure the child belongs to the applicant but Uncle Sam will reimburse the money if the result is positive. .. the illegal alien will get 'resettlement assistance' ... " [Emphasis added.]

CONCLUSION

Why would the Democrats promote Madness?

That's an easy one. Because they will turn the illegals into votes!

Glen McCoy's Cartoon

President Reagan, in 1986, signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act, which legalized about 3 million undocumented immigrants. The law was supposed to be a comprehensive solution with provisions intended to enforce border security and so prevent future problems. Those provisions were never implemented, and the subsequent explosion in illegal crossings resulted in some 11 million illegal aliens living in the United States today.
